In 1958, National Chiao Tung University (NCTU) established Taiwan’s first Electronics Research Institute on Bo’ai Street in Hsinchu City, pioneering high-tech education in the country. It led the nation by founding the first academic departments in electronics, control, and telecommunications. Over the past fifty years, NCTU has cultivated countless technological leaders in electronics, electrical engineering, and information and communication technology, significantly contributing to Taiwan’s economic transformation.
The Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) boasts a world-class faculty, including three Academicians of the Academia Sinica, three members of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, 26 IEEE Fellows, and six National Chair Professors. It is the only department among Taiwan’s top four electrical engineering universities to offer dual specialties in electrical engineering and computer technologies. The department encompasses a wide range of research areas, including AI robotics, artificial intelligence and computer engineering, system control, wireless technology and RF circuits, electronic circuit design, digital system chip design, multimedia signal processing, communication science and systems, information and communication technology, power electronics and energy, biomedical electronics and information, electronic design automation, advanced memory, green energy, quantum electronics and optoelectronics, sensor components and systems, nanoelectronics, and electronic materials.
The department aims to nurture elite talents with interdisciplinary research capabilities and provides robust experimental courses that enhance students’ practical skills and entrepreneurial potential. This comprehensive approach broadens their career prospects and prepares them for future challenges in the field.
