Department Overview
Our Department is committed to fostering a deep and multidimensional integration of the humanities and technology, grounded in a professional training system that places equal emphasis on language communication, linguistics and literature. Anchored in a strong foundation of critical inquiry in literature and linguistics, we actively draw upon the university’s rich interdisciplinary resources, spanning information science, engineering, management, medicine, and the social sciences. This integrative approach cultivates a dynamic academic environment that promotes innovative research and forward-looking learning. Our education mission is to nurture students who combine systematic analytical abilities with human-centered communicative and interpersonal competencies. Graduates of the department are thus well prepared to address complex challenges from diverse, multilayered perspectives, guided by both local sensitivity and global awareness, as well as critical and reflective insight.
Academic Focus
In the field of literature, we emphasize both the interdisciplinary integration of the humanities and the distinctive expertise that the field offers. Our curriculum includes critical studies with a focus on issues such as gender and literature, literature and culture, film and literature, literary theory, ecological discourse, the medical humanities, and transnational studies. These courses are designed not only to deepen understanding but also to encourage the application of critical understanding to contemporary cultural and social concerns.
In linguistics, our approach intergrates theoretical foundations with empirical and practical applications. Particular emphasis is placed on developing students’ capacities for language analysis, independent inquiry, and data-driven research. In addition to core courses in syntax, phonetics, phonology, and semantics, we also offer advanced courses in sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, language acquisition, and speech and hearing sciences.
Beyond its core disciplinary strengths, the department extends its focus to interdisciplinary domains such as the application of Generative Linguistics to artificial intelligence, language and medicine, and language-based interfaces. Through close collaboration with departments in engineering, medical, arts, and technology, students are guided to engage in cutting-edge research that bridges traditional academic boundaries and addresses real-world problems through language-centered perspectives.
