The Department of Applied Chemistry (DAC) is located in the Science Building II, NYCU, Taiwan., with an area of 11,500 square meters. DAC was established in 1982, and initially consisted of only a master’s program; the bachelor’s and doctoral programs were established in 1990 and 1992, respectively, and Institute of Molecular Science was established in 2004. Further, to strengthen international competition and cultivate prospective international students, in 2013, International Master of Science Program for Interdisciplinary Molecular Science of Materials and Chemical Biology (SPIM) was founded. In 2014, DAC collaborated with Institute of Chemistry, Academic Sinica, Taiwan, launching Taiwan International Graduate Program- Sustainable Chemical Science and Technology (TIGP-SCST). DAC works closely with multifarious incorparations as well as government agencies, and receives significant funding from both the public and private sectors. The annual research budget has steadily grown over the years, and is currently around NT$155 million. The areas in which the Department is currently conducting research include: pharmaceutical design and synthesis, supramolecular synthesis and research, photochemistry, enzyme chemistry, protein genetic engineering, microfluidic analytical chemistry, biological analysis, single molecule detection, molecular dynamics, laser chemistry, ultrafast kinetics research, nanomaterials, superconducting materials, macromolecular materials, macromolecular science and technology, optoelectronic materials, renewable energy, computer simulation, and theoretical calculations.
